The team, led by Chinmay Basu, additional secretary, Union ministry of rural development, ended its visit on Tuesday after taking stock of the progress in the implementation of schemes like the NREGS.

“We visited the three districts and saw the pace of implementation of the Central schemes like NREGS, PMGSY etc. While we saw good work in a few places, there were lots of gaps as well. We are making several long-term and short-term recommendations and our report will be placed before the Planning Commission,” one of the officials told The Indian Express.

On Wednesday, the Central team held a meeting with senior state government officials led by Chief Secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti. Later, briefing the media, Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said the team showed overall satisfaction at the work done in the villages. “They expressed satisfaction in a few things that include supply of medicines to rural health centres, water conservation. They also said that in areas like supply of drinking water, there was scope for improvement,” Sen said.

However, doubts were raised about the itinerary of the Central team. The team was not taken to Amlasol, Bandwan or Lalgarh, which recently hogged headlines for all the wrong reasons.

However, the home secretary said that the Central team did not make any complaint regarding this. “The team members even said that on one occasion, they wanted to make a detour from their route and they had no problems in doing it,” Sen further said.
