NFF general secretary Pradip Chatterjee said the organisation had on February 2, 2010, filed an RTI application seeking information from the Union Ministry of Environment on the proposed project at Haripur. The ministry replied on February 19, saying it did not receive any proposal for environment clearance for the proposed nuclear project, said Chatterjee.
On Union Minister of Environment and Forest Jairam Ramesh’s recent announcement that the required clearance for the Haripur project had been given, Chatterjee said: “How did Jairam Ramesh announce the environment clearance for the proposed plant at Haripur, when the environment ministry had not received any proposal for environment clearance?”
M L Meena, principal secretary of State Environment department, said the Union Environment ministry could not clear the project without holding a public hearing at Haripur.
