Kolkata Vice-Chairman of RPG Group, Sanjiv Goenka, today announced that CESC Limited’s proposed Rs 2,400-crore thermal power plant project in Haldia will be in place within two to three weeks. According to him, the CESC proposes to set up two units of 300 MW power generation capacity each.

The Trinamool Congress had been opposing the land acquisition.  Today, however, Subhendhu Adhikari, MP, Tamluk said: “We have resolved all the issues. I had a word with Sanjiv Goenka and the project will start soon.”

Goenka said: “We need around 30 to 34 acres in Haldia for starting our project. The land acquisition problem had delayed the project. But things have started moving in a positive direction.”

“Even though we do not have the possession of the land, but we have enough reason to believe that we will soon have the land with us. We met Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee regarding this issue and the issues are almost resolved,” he said. “We started the land acquisition process two years ago. Initially, there was a problem regarding the settlement of price between the landowners and the state government,” said Choten D Lama, District Magistrate of East Midnapore.
