To be held at the Jumma Masjid in Champaner at the World Heritage Site in Champaner-Pavagadh on Sunday, the festival was moved to Panchmahals District Panchayat Hall. The district authorities failed to submit specifications, as demanded by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials at Pavagadh, on time.
H C Verma, senior conservation assistant, ASI Pavagadh, said: “The district authorities had given Rs 50,000 as security for organising the event at the Jumma Masjid. They, however, failed to submit details about the event on time.
“These details included information about the number of participants, the number of people attending the festival as well as the timings of the event, which was to be held on Sunday. It's ASI headquarters in Delhi, which give the final confirmation for such events. Since the specifications were not reported to the ASI on time, the venue had to be shifted,” Verma said.
Panchmahals District Collector Milind Torwane said: “The specifications were not filed on time since the event was open for all and we could not confirm details about people attending the event.”
Kirtida Pandya, Pavagadh sarpanch, said: “There were some doubts after the venue was shifted. But the event was successful as the preparations were discussed by the district authorities at the Pavagadh Gram Sabha.”
