Chandigarh Alleges security was withdrawn due to political rivalry

Former Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court, demanding restoration of the Z plus security withdrawn from him by the Haryana government on January 14.

Notices have been issued to the Haryana Home Secretary, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP), on the petition. He has alleged that the state withdrew the security given to him without giving any reasons.

Crying foul, Chand Mohammad has alleged that the security has been withdrawn on account of political rivalry. He alleged that he was removed from the post of Deputy CM because he got converted and married again.

Apprehending threat to his life and liberty from various political organisations and terrorist outfits (for the work done by his father as former chief minister of Haryana), Chand Mohammad has sought directions for restoration of the security given to him. “Even if Chander Mohan has got converted into a Muslim, he is connected to his family, who had been receiving threatening calls in the past. No reason has been given before withdrawing his security. This has been done purely on account of political rivalry,” said advocate Rohit Mahajan, counsel for Chand Mohammad.

Taking note of the allegations, Justice Jaswant Singh has issued notices to the opposite parties for January 27. The court has directed the authorities to file a reply explaining whether there is any threat perception to Chand Mohammad.
