The kennel has twenty compartments coupled with a facility for providing post-surgery medicare. It also has a grooming parlour as well as a swimming pool to keep the inmates fit and fresh.
“We intend to provide the best of the facilities to the pets that come here,” said Singh, who runs two vetenary clinics in Sector 11, Chandigarh, and Mohali.
The kennel comes handy for pet lovers who can now leave their dogs in safe custody for a nominal fee of Rs 200 per day.
Besides dogs, Singh also plans to extend facilities to other pets like cats, rabbits and birds. In alliance with the Municipal Corporation, stray dogs would be kept in the kennel and set free after sterilisation.
The kennel will also be a breeding ground for pets that will be groomed and further sold to other pet lovers.
Planting a sapling on the occasion, Nek Chand expressed happiness over the setting up of a separate unit for pets. “Dogs have rendered great services to mankind and hence deserve special treatment,” he said.
