Chandigarh thrash Andhra Pradesh 21-1 in hockey

Chandigarh, January 6 Chandigarh hockey team thrashed Andhra Pradesh by 21-1 in the boys’ under-17 category on the second day of the 53rd National School Games being held at Sports Complex, Sector-42. Gagandeep was the star for Chandigarh scoring as many as seven goals while Damandeep netted five goals.

In another match in the same category, Punjab scored an easy 7-0 win over Chattisgarh. Bhupinder Singh opened the account for Punjab scoring a goal in the fifth minute of the game while Deepak Kumar extended the lead scoring the second goal in 21st minute of the game. Manjinder Singh scored the third goal for Punjab in the 27th minute while Kanwar Deep scored the fourth goal for Punjab in the 40th minute of the game. Deepak kumar scored his second goal of the game in the 47th minute making the score board read 5-0 while Kanwardeep scored the sixth goal for Punjab in the 50th minute. Manjinder Singh scored the last goal for Punjab. In another match of the day, Haryana defeated IPSC by 4-1. Karnataka outplayed Tripura with a 5-0 win while Uttar Pradesh thrashed Kerela by 9-0 in a one sided encounter which saw Uttar Pradesh dominating right through the match. Maharashtra scored a 6-3 victory over Rajasthan in the same category while the match between Delhi and Madhya Pradesh ended up in a draw with both the teams tied at 1-1 after the end of regulation time.

Later in the evening, Tamil Nadu scored an easy 5-0 win over Tripura while Karnataka scored a 3-1 victory over IPSC. In another encounter, Orissa outplayed Kerela with a 12-1 win while Uttar Pradesh scored an easy 6-1 win over Maharashtra. Madhya Pradesh edged out uttrakhand by a 5-2 margin while Delhi defeated Chattisgarh by 6-0.

In the girls’ under-17 category in hockey, Punjab scored a 3-1 win over Karnataka while hosts Chandigarh thrashed Tamil Nadu by 11-0. In another match of the same category, Haryana drubbed Rajasthan by 15-0 while Kerala drew with Maharashtra after both the teams failed to score a goal in regulation time. In another match, Madhya Pradesh thrashed Chattisgarh by 5-0 while Uttrakhand scored a 3-1 victory over Andhra Pradesh. In the afternoon session, Uttar Pradesh defeated Delhi by 7-2 while Himachal Pradesh edged out Orissa by 3-2 in a closely fought encounter. In another match, Haryana drew with Madhya Pradesh as both the teams were tied at 2-2 after the end of regulation time.

Punjab softball team defeated Uttar Pradesh by 11-0 in the boys’ under-14 category while Delhi scored an easy 10-0 victory over Haryana. In another match of the day, Maharashtra defeated Andhra Pradesh by 6-2 while Vidhya Bharti scored a 14-3 victory over Haryana. Maharashtra scored a 2-0 win over Madhya Pradesh in another encounter of the day. In the under-17 category, delhi scored a 10-5 win over Rajasthan while Madhya Pradesh edged out Chattisgarh by 4-3 margin. Punjab scored an easy 12-0 win over Haryana. In the boys under-19 category, Chandigarh scored an easy 17-0 victory over Jammu and Kashmir while Delhi defeated Rajasthan by 8-0 in a one sided encounter.
