Amritsar, February 1 The district police today said no case was registered in last night’s incident in which Health Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla sustained minor injuries following misbehaviour by a Narcotics Control Bureau official.

Chawla sustained injuries in her right shoulder when NCB official Balwinder Kumar allegedly pushed her. She reportedly intervened when Kumar’s team was forcibly taking away a smuggler, identified as Sukhwinder Singh Sukha, on the busy Lawrence Road Market.

Amritsar SSP Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh said no case was registered as Balwinder has apologised and Chawla also wanted to forgive and forget. Balwinder was trailing Sukha, who is wanted in a drugs’ smuggling case, when the unsavory episode happened. He spotted him and intercepted his vehicle, but Sukha ran away. The NCB team nabbed him after a chase.

Chawla, who was in the area, saw the officials in plainclothes bundling away a man in their vehicle, and suspecting abduction, she rushed to his rescue.

When she intervened, the officials pushed her away, but she raised the alarm and they were apprehended.

After he apologised, Balwinder was today let off and he took Sukha to Chandigarh. Though she was not available, sources close to Chawla said she had forgiven the NCB official as he was doing his duty and did not want a case against him for misbehaviour.
