The UT Vigilance Bureau had arrested Singh, a resident of Sector 23, on the charges of cheating. It was alleged that he had bid in the year 1991 to purchase a SCO in Sector 46-D on behalf of a non-existing firm AB Financers Private Limited, which was shown operating from a cabin in Quiet Office, Sector 35.
Singh’s counsel told Newsline that the Vigilance Department had exceeded its jurisdiction in imposing Section 420 (cheating) of Indian Penal Code on Tehal Singh, as the Section is not invoked on the basis of the complaint, which Vigilance is keeping as their base to register a case against Singh.
