Kolkata Edeh Chidi took the captain’s armband and led from the front with two goals as Mohun Bagan came back after being one goal down to win 4-1 against Kalighat MS in the Calcutta Football League (CFL) premier division match on home turf on Wednesday.

Bapi Das scored for Kalighat MS in the 43rd minute as Bagan’s overseas recruit Okwy Diamondstar failed to spot him inside the area. Manish Mathani eqalised in the 54th minute with a 20-yard strike and then Chidi raised his game to ensure full points for his side. His first goal came in the 68th minute as he edged past three defenders and placed home with a left-footer. The second goal, in the 86th minute, was also courtesy a clinical finishing. In between, Subair Muritala Ali scored in the 78th minute.

Bagan, however, didn’t impress. Midfield once again failed to control the game and the defence at times looked clueless against Kalighat MS striker Christopher’s speed and precision.

Waugh at Udayan

Former Australia captain Steve Waugh said that the ICC should act tough to curb “fixing” in cricket as he paid a visit to Udayan on Wednesday. Waugh also hoped that India would successfully arrange the Commonwealth Games.
