Kolkata Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Thursday sent a letter to the principal of Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) congratulating him and his team of doctors on performing a rare surgery on Wednesday that had saved the life of a 21-year-old man injured in an accident.

Sheikh Rezak Ali, a resident of Arambagh, had met with an accident at Shiakhala in Hooghly on Wednesday when a truck hit his car. A 5.5-feet steel shaft had penetrated his right arm and back.

Congratulating Mrityunjoy Mukhopadhyay and his team for successfully performing a surgery on Ali, the chief minister said that it was indeed an extraordinary achievement that made the state proud. Bhattacharjee has invited the doctor and his team to the Writers’ Buildings on Monday to facilitate them.
