When Mallika Chopra, came up with her first book on parenting, titled 100 Promises To My Baby, she hadn’t thought that the transition from making promises to grappling with whimsical questions from her daughters Tara and Leela, would be a path towards self discovery. Talking at the launch of her second book titles 100 Questions From My Child (Rodale Books; Rs 395) at the Oxford Book Store, Chopra said, “There is a tsunami of questions that I face everyday, sometimes cute, sometimes quirky. The transition has been proverbial as well as natural, challenging me to think about my own beliefs and value systems.” From “Do trees have feelings?” to “Am I boring?” to “What is a bomb?”, from “Will you get sick and die?” to “Where did I come from?” — it was this daily cascade of questions that goaded her to write the book. “The book does not preach anything about being politically correct. It just informs the parents about answering tricky queries with ease,” she says.
Full of personal anecdotes, Chopra also feels adopting an easy approach while answering is not an easy task. “Saying because I said so, is not the best thing to say. The goal is to stimulate a dialogue between parents and children to make them explore things together,” she says.
The book comes with a foreword by Chopra’s dad, Deepak, the well-known spiritual guru.
