Chandigarh Chilly winds coupled with a dense fog greeted the city residents on Wednesday. The day temperature, meanwhile, remained six degrees below normal.

While poor visibility delayed some trains by nearly thirteen hours, some flights were also cancelled.

While the Shatabdi Express (2011), between New Delhi and Kalka, was late by almost an hour, the Unchahar Express (4217), between Allahabad and Chandigarh, was running late by 13 hours and had not arrived till the filing of this report. Sadhavna Express (2231), between Lucknow and Chandigarh, meanwhile, arrived four hours behind schedule.

The Kingfisher Airlines flight between Chandigarh and Mumbai was delayed by over four hours and departed at 2.30 pm, Jet Airways flights from Chandigarh to Delhi and Chandigarh to Mumbai were delayed by over an hour each.

Officials of the Meteorological department have predicted that such weather conditions are likely to continue in the next few days.

The chilly winds and the fog are likely to act as a dampener on the New Year celebrations of many. And with the visibility at night having been reduced considerably, driving has become a difficult task.
