Chopra seals semis berth

Mumbai Vivek Chopra of Jalandhar snatched two wins to seal his place in the semi-finals of the Rexello Western India Junior Open Snooker Tournament at the Islam Gymkhana on Thursday.

In the round robin quarter-finals, Chopra topped Group ‘A’ after winning two of his three ties. Chopra first overcame Varun Madan of New Delhi 64-20, 57-30, 67-12 and later rallied to beat Manish Jain of Kolkata 2-57, 100-7, 63-27, 61-51 that included a break of 48 in the second frame.

Madan later made amends when he beat Nilesh Nagpal of Lucknow 3-0 to keep his hopes alive of making it to the last four.

Manish Jain also remained in contention for a last four berth following a thrilling 57-30, 46-53, 39-62, 83-1, 69-41 win over Nagpal that included a crucial break of 47 in the fourth frame that changed his fortunes.
