Chandigarh, January 11 A Huge crowd turned up for the final match of the Premier Hockey League at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium on Friday. After the ICL Twenty20 final, Chandigarh ran out of luck this time around as well when it lost to Bangalore Hi-fliers. Chandigarh Dynamos, led by Rajpal Singh, lost 2-1 to the Bangalore team.

Over 20,000 fans turned up at the stadium for the match. By 6 pm, when the match started, the stadium was already bubbling with an enthusiastic crowd.

Whistles, Mexican waves, painted faces, songs, dhol beats amid shouts of Chak-de Chandigarh electrified the atmosphere. Hockey stalwarts like Ajeetpal Singh, Pargat Singh and S Grewal, were also present on the occasion.

The crowd cheered the Chandigarh Dynamos in anticipation every time a player neared the goal post, their hopes pinned on drag-flicker Sandeep Singh and skipper Rajpal Singh.

Though Sandeep Singh struck for his team in the closing moments to score a lone goal for the Dynamos, the effort was not enough to save his team from a defeat.

Besides a prize money of Rs 40 lakh to the Bangalore Hi-Fliers, skipper Tushar Khandekar also received the Rs 1.5 lakh fairplay award.

Bangalore Hi-fliers had emerged the champions with a similar margin in the second edition of the tournament in 2006.
