Ludhiana: Ten persons were challaned on Tuesday by health department under Tobacco Act near PAU. These persons were caught smoking near PAU campus. “They were fined in around Rs 100 - 200 and the fine was collected from them on the spot,” said district health officer Dr Kulwinder Singh. He said that public smoking is banned and one cannot smoke within a 200-metre radius of an educational institution.
Blood donation camp held
Ludhiana: Zindagi Live Foundation today organised its first voluntary blood donation camp to aid thalassemic children at Rajkarni Mahashakti Srenior Secondary School under the aegis of Gandhi Nagar Market Association. 182 units were donated to DMC&H under the guidance of Dr Amarjit Kaur, Transfusion Head and Dr Manvi Gupta. The camp was inaugurated by Manmohan Dawar, Gandhi Nagar Market Association President and Vicky Sekhon. The occasion was graced by Rakesh Pandey, ex-minister and Deepak Khandoor, District Youth Congress President.
To beat the chill, prisoners donated quilts
Ludhiana: To beat the chill, generous hosiery manufacturers of Ludhiana donated 1,100 quilts to the inmates of Ludhiana Central Jail. Arora Knit Fabric, Oster Group and K Lala Overseas Group donated these quilts. They were given to the inmates by Jail Minister Hira Singh Gabria. The minister asked the inmates to follow good moral values so that they do not come to jails again.
Bank launches e-lobby branch
Ludhiana: Punjab National Bank Ludhiana Circle opened a new e-lobby branch on Monday. S S Bhatia inaugurated the new e-lobby branch in a function presided by Y K Barar, Circle Head, PNB, Ludhiana circle. Barar in his address said that e-lobby at Retail Assets Branch (RAB) will provide its customers facilities of 24x7 days banking transaction with cash receipt, cheque deposit, e-clearing, internet banking and self printing of pass-books by customers.
NSS volunteers organise rally
Ludhiana: The National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of the Punjab Agricultural University on Tuesday organised a rally against social evils as a part of the seven-day NSS camp, which is currently under way on the campus. D S Cheema, Director Students’ Welfare, PAU, flagged off the awareness rally. The theme of the NSS camp is “Awareness against Social Evils.”
