City Centre case adjourned to Jan 31

Ludhiana The much-hyped City Centre case was adjourned till January 31 by District and Session Judge G K Rai on Saturday. It has also been fixed as the next date for framing the charges against the accused.

Former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh was granted exemption from personal appearance in court as he was suffering from vertigo and spondylitis. Defence counsels of Amarinder and others again submitted that many of the documents submitted by the Vigilance Bureau in court were not readable.

On the other hand, special public prosecutor District Attorney Mitter Sen Goyal stated that the defence was only attempting to delay the proceedings in the case. He requested the court to expedite the process of framing charges. Goyal alleged that the All India Congress committee had also received Rs 55 lakh as donation from Today Homes. He also said that Capt Amarinder Singh should not be exempted for today.

After hearing the prosecution and defense counsel, Justice Rai directed the defense counsel to complete inspection of the documents alongwith the challan by January 29. He also directed the prosecution to file a reply on the application filled by Vinay Subhiki, a Today Home official, on January 19. Chief architect S K Dev requested the court to cancel the bail bonds of the accused. Justice Rai has also fixed January 31 for consideration on the said application.

Those who appeared in court included former local bodies minister Jagjit Singh, Capt Amarinder Singh’s son, Raninder Singh, his relative Raminder Singh Richi, former Additional Advocate General, H S Sandhu, former LIT chief engineer, Manmohan Singh ,Today Home officials: G K Ghambir , Vinay Subhiki and Sunil Sharma, Delhi-based businessman Chetan Gupta and other co-accused.
