Ludhiana, February 5 Cabinet Minister Hira Singh Gabria has said that the government is soon going to re-start the City Centre project.

Addressing a gathering at Sandhu Market, Vishal Nagar, Gabria said that a formal announcement with regard to this project is expected to be made by March end. He said the government is identifying the suitable company to entrust this project. He held the former Congress regime as an obstacle in this project.

Elaborating the development plans for the area, Gabria said that projects worth Rs 400 crore will be initiated soon for constructing roads on both sides of Sidhwan Canal, coupled with a treatment plant at Doraha. The construction of flyovers over Pakhowal and Dugri Bridge is yet another plan. Pipes will be laid on Sidhwan Canal, thus providing space for tourism purposes. Also, a link road will be constructed that will directly connect the trans-canal area with Model Town, he added.

On this occasion, Gabria honoured Nalin Kaushik, an advocate and Legal Advisor, Universal Cultural and Social Welfare society, for his significant contributions in sorting out the decade-long water problem of the area. He also felicitated the newly-appointed vice-president of Ludhiana Urban Akali Dal, Gurmel Singh Pardesi, for his hard work in the recently concluded Municipal elections.

Tehel Singh Gill (Councillor Ward 58), Amarjit Singh Chawla (Ex-PPSC member), Surinder Kaur Dayal, Pargat Singh Grewal, I P Singh (Vice President Sanatan Dharam Mandir, Vishal Nagar), Davinder Singh Neetu, Parminder Singh Padain, Inderjit Singh Gumber and Sarabjit Singh were also present on the occasion.
