“The uterus was removed laparoscopically with the aid of a telescope and fine instruments,” said Dr Sinha.
Dr Chaitali Mhajani, a laparoscopic surgeon, said, “Due to the fear of getting operated upon, the patient denied to go for surgery. But later she agreed to go for a laparoscopic hysterectomy.”
According to the doctors, Madhuri’s uterus weighed almost 55 times more than a normal uterus and was heavier than the average weight of a newborn baby.
According to Dr Sinha, Madhuri didn’t want a long surgical scar after an open surgery. He said Madhuri had told him that she looked eight-month pregnant owing to the fibriod.
“In the conventional open hysterectomy, a patient will lose almost 2 litres of blood. But during a laparoscopic surgery, a patient will lose only 350 ml of blood and it promises a quick recovery,” said Dr Sinha. It took around four hours and 15 minutes to complete the surgery. Madhuri was discharged 48 hours after the surgery.
