City gets IIM-C’s new course

Pune A chartered accountant or company secretary looking at being elevated to chief finance officer (CFO) or chief executive office (CEO) has some help at hand. The new course introduced by the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) could be a handy aid in climbing the ladder of success, according to the institute officials.

Pune is one of the eight study centres for the new course in management for CA, CS, ICWA and finance professionals, called the General Management Programme for Accounting Professionals.

“The programme is spread over three terms and covers Financial Risk Management, Financial Statements Analysis and Business Valuation, Corporate Restructuring (Mergers and Acquisitions), Strategic Planning of Human Resources Values, Global Competition and Strategy and more,” said Ashish Bhattacharya, programme director for the course and professor of finance and control with IIM-C.

“It is aimed at keeping finance professionals abreast with the most advanced approaches to business,” said Manju Jaiswall, co-director of the course and assistant professor of finance and control, IIM-C.

“The session will be delivered on interactive learning platform provided by HughesNet Global Education across all cities. The system incorporates live broadcast video; two-way audio and data interactivity to enable students to watch and interact with the faculty on their PCs ,” Bhattacharya said.

The course will have 16 subjects in financial management, details of which are available on www.indialearn.com .

To suit office-goers, classes will be held after between 6.45 pm and 9.45 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays at HughesNet Global Education study centres at Kalyani Nagar, Aundh and New Nana Peth. The total cost for the 18-month course, including the application form and study material, is Rs 2.7 lakh. The last date for receipt of applications is February 14, 2009.
