City is unsafe for women: BJP

Chandigarh, February 24 Expressing concern over the growing incidents of chain snatching and other crimes in the city, BJP leaders today claimed that law and order situation in the city has gone out of control. In a statement issued today, the BJP leaders said the city has become unsafe for women as the number of chain snatching incidents has grown manifold. Pointing towards the alleged rape of a woman by the police commandos deployed at Haryana Raj Bhawan, the BJP said women are not safe even in the VVIP areas.

The statement was issued by the president of BJP Chandigarh unit, Kamla Sharma, former MP Satya Pal Jain, BJP vice-president Mata Ram Dhiman, Sanjay Tandon and Ramvir Bhatti (both general secretaries), Dr Ramnik Sharma, Dr Seema Dutt and Shashi Bala Jain.The statement said that Chandigarh comes under the administrative control of Union Home Ministry and the committee constituted to look into the matters concerning the UT has not held any meeting till date. They further claimed that local MP and Union Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal has also failed to address the issue of deteriorating law and order situation in Chandigarh.
