In an attempt to spread awareness about violence against women, city-based women’s organisation Sahiyar has started work on creating a 100-metre long banner to celebrate International Women’s Day in a grand manner this year.
Sahiyar committee member Trupti Shah said: “During any kind of social, economic or communal disharmony, it is the marginalised groups that are affected; and women are a vital part of every marginalised group. We are trying to spread the message through the theme of ‘No To Violence’.”
Sahiyar has roped in people from M S University, schools, trade unions and the slums for creating the banner, which will be put up in the city on March 8.
They will work on themes such as domestic violence, sexual harassment, deterioration of sex ratio, communal disputes and terrorism.
“We are not looking for clichéd pictures, but ones with a different perspective. We have organised workshops with each group in this regard. We are trying to reach out to more groups so that the message can be spread,” Shah added.
Each group will work on a one-metre piece of cloth to depict various issues of violence related to women.
