City remembers Sahir Ludhianvi on his birth anniversary

Ludhiana To commemorate the birth anniversary of famous poet Sahir Ludhianvi, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, under the aegis of Dhvani, an association for the promotion of music, organised an inter-college singing competition for the students of medical, dental and nursing colleges of the city at Dumra Auditorium today.

The students from CMCH, DMCH, Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College, Oswal Nursing College and Guru Teg Bahadur Nursing College participated in the event.

Dr Daljit Singh, principal, DMCH inaugurated the competition by lightening the ceremonial lamp. He also sang ‘Yeh mehlon,yeh takhton,yeh taazo ki duniya’ which fascinated the audience. Dr NS Khaira, professor of Nephrology, enlightened the audience about the Sahir’s contributions to music.

Dr Sunil Juneja (convenor) said organising such functions will help remember the contributions of the music and poetry legends. The first and the second prize were bagged by Abhineet Singh, College of Nursing, Naresh Paul, College of Nursing while the third prize was jointly shared by Parul (CMCH) and Aman Puneet, College of Nursing.

Those present on the occasion included medical superintendents Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, Dr B S Shah, Dr Kapil Dua and Dr Harish Matta.
