Chandigarh, January 7 The Rotary Club of Chandigarh signed an agreement to undertake humanitarian projects jointly with the Rotary Club of Coral Gables, Florida, USA, here today.

The president of Rotary Club Chandigarh, Arvind Mehan, signed the agreement with the visiting Rotarians in the presence of Shaju Peter of Rotary District 3080 and other members of the club.

The Rotary Club of Coral Gables was represented by Noelle A Galperin and Teresa C Long who were in the city as part of the eight-member team to participate in the national immunisation day (NID) in a fight against polio.

Noelle said the group was visiting Chandigarh to celebrate the Rotary’s 20-year-long fight against polio, and hoped that by next year polio would be eradicated from India.

Teresa Long said the agreement was just a beginning and that they would be exploring opportunities of working together, especially to provide clean drinking water facilities in some of the slums and rural areas in and around Chandigarh. Apart from Noelle the group included Richard Tonkinson, Jarome Hurtak, Teresa C Long, Taileen Arias, Wayne R Robinson, Xue-June (Jon) Sheng and Kelsey Vaughan.

They also visited Bapu Dham colony this morning for house-to-house immunisation.
