He was speaking in a seminar at Hotel Friends Regency, under the Continued Medical Education (CME) project of the association. He said,"The bill will be an interference in the working. It will contribute towards costlier medical care. So the Punjab Government should not notify this act in the state. Moreover the need of the hour is to weed out unqualified and unregisterd quacks."

Dr Rajesh Thaper welcomed NIMA delegates and Dr DS Sandhu DM, Medical Oncologist Dayanand Medical College and Hospital for sparing their valuable time despite the prevalant chilly weather.

Rajiv Singla, district manager, Ranbaxy Pharma, discussed the emerging trends in anti rabies vaccine. He highlighted the positive effect of anti-rabies vaccine, as far as prevention of full blown clinical rabies is concerned.

He said, "Generally, it was recommended that people having PETS in their homes should get their family vaccinated against Rabies in advance, by getting only 3 doses. This measure can go a long way as far as disease prevention is concerned. Though one should not take chance & go for anti rabies vaccination, even if the animal/pet is vaccinated. It is so because Antibody responce of pet to vaccination, can not be predicted."

Dr Surendra Gupta complimented that NIMA doctors are giving good services to the society. NIMA also organised its 50th diabetes detection camp on Sunday.

Dr Sandhu gave brief informative lecture on cancer prevention. He said that longevity of life expectancy, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, physical inactivity, junk foods (specially diet deficient in fibers, fresh fruits and vegetables), certain chemicals, pesticides, and above all illiteracy ignorance and casual attitude are the major contributing factors in various types of cancer. Some factors are prevetable while others like increased life span/expactancy are the otherwise positive impact of socio-economic development.
