The civic body also plans to develop playgrounds for children in every locality and has allocated Rs 2 crore for the current fiscal year and another Rs 10 crore for 2009-2010.
Discussion on the budget concluded on Tuesday where the Chairman of the Standing Committee, Vijendra Gupta made the announcements.
“Around 150 km-length of roads of 100 m width will be improved to make them ‘zero-defect’ roads. A two-member panel comprising senior engineering department officials will be set up for the purpose,” Gupta said.
The civic body will also take up work on upgrading the drainage system on roads with a width of 80 m. “Earlier, we had a budget of Rs 100 crore to be spent from the ESCROW account for the improvement of roads, but this financial year it has been increased to Rs 150 crore. The same amount is proposed to be spent in the next financial year as well,” Gupta added.
MCD has also kept an amount of Rs 30 crore from the ESCROW account for its much-awaited door-to-door garbage collection project slated to be launched this year, Gupta said.
