Kaur was earlier serving as DEO (Elementary) Ludhiana. “I enjoyed my previous tenure. The appointment of government school teachers on contract basis was the most satisfactory work done during that time. I believe that hard work always pays,” said Kaur.
When asked if she was expecting her appointment as DEO (Sec) Ludhiana, she beamed, “One always hopes for the best. But these orders were unexpected.” She has already started work and regarding the forthcoming board examination of Punjab School Education Board, she said, “I will call a meeting of principals on February 17 in this regard. Strict instructions will be issued to all to curb the menace of cheating in annual examinations.”
Kaur started her career as a Social studies teacher in 1972. Ten years into service, she was appointed as the headmistress. She was then promoted as the principal of Government Senior Secondary School in 1996.
She was the DEO (Elementary) at Ropar for a year before joining as Ludhiana DEO in August last year.
Special exam held for girls
To promote girls’ education, a special examination of girl students of Class VI and VII was conducted in government schools under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan on Saturday. District Education Officer (Secondary) Ludhiana Amarjeet Kaur said: “Over 3000 girl students of all government schools participated in this test of Social studies, Mathematics, Science and English. The results of the exam will be declared on Monday. The first three position holders of this exam at the block level will be awarded in a district level function.” She further added that a similar type of examination was conducted for the students of Class V and VIII a few days ago. — ENS
