The residents of Housefed flats protested the closure of three gates in the colony. A total of 133 flats of Housefed have been constructed at Chandigarh Road, and nearly 50 houses have also been constructed in the area.
Sources say that the flat owners have their own security system. And for additional safety, residents have got four gates put up in the area. Today morning, the residents decided to open only one gate. The other gates were locked, which led to much protest by the Housefed Complex residents.
Narinder Bhamra, president of Sector 39 Welfare Association said, “We had closed the three gates for safety purposes. But now, after a meeting with Councillor Pal Singh Grewal, we have decided to open two gates. Our area is far from the main city, so we had taken this step for personal security.”
Ramakant, a resident of Housefed Complex said, “Our flats are in the same area. Because of the gates’ closure, the school buses are not coming in. Also, the residents have to take a longer route to go to the temple, gurdwara and other areas well.” Harpreet Singh, another resident said, “Our point is that all gates should be opened, and security should be deployed at all gates. There should be no public inconvenience.”
However, Bhamra stated that with the opening of two gates, the problem will be solved, and security will be provided at two gates. He clarified that no trespassers will be allowed to enter this locality. Only the residents, their relatives etc will be allowed to enter the area.
Similar problems have been reported at Kitchlu Nagar and also Model Town Extension. At all these places, the resident welfare associations claim that these steps are being taken for personal security.
