New Delhi, March 8 What began as a hot and sweaty Saturday soon gave away to a cooler and pleasant day as the city witnessed drastic weather changes in a matter of hours. After the maximum temperature soared to 32.6 degrees, five degrees above normal, thick clouds soon blocked the sunrays. Some areas also received light showers. Or “scattered precipitation activity”, as the meteorological department calls it.

It’s not unusual though, the weatherman says, for light showers in March are a common phenomenon. “Western disturbances bring some amount of rainfall with it during this time,” a Met official says. Last year, it was 61.6 mm, one of the highest in decades. Will this year be the same? “We can’t be sure of that,” says the officer on duty at the Safdarjung weather observatory. For now, though, he predicts some more showers on Sunday. There’s good news on the mercury front, too: the minimum temperature is expected to drop over the next few days. So, enjoy, as long as it lasts.
