New Delhi Barely a few days after they formed a new government in the city, Delhi’s ministers have given a New Year present to themselves in the shape of six brand new bungalows for the six Cabinet ministers.

With only two ministers in the Cabinet — Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Industries and Food and Supplies Minister Harun Yusuf — living in government-allotted bungalows, the CM has reportedly cleared the designs for six new bungalows, presented by the PWD in the Cabinet meeting on Monday.

While the proposal to allot new bungalows was cleared in September last year, the designs are yet to be cleared by the Delhi Urban Arts Commission before construction.

Senior government officials said four bungalows have been proposed at a plot measuring 15931.22 sq m at 8, Raj Niwas Marg. The other bungalows have been proposed at a piece of land measuring 8011.01 sq m at 3, Attaur Rehman Lane, near Rajpur Road.

The bungalows have been designed as double-storeyed structures with the aim that a consolidated residential address would increase the efficiency of the ministers, who are currently living in private residences across the city. “The design is in keeping with requirements for the ministers’ residence and office space, with living rooms planned on the ground floor,” an official said.

Current Address
* Sheila Dikshit (Chief Minister) - 3, Motilal Nehru Place
* Dr A K Walia (Finance and UD Minister) - Preet Vihar
* Harun Yusuf (Minister of Industries and Food and Supplies) - Rouse Avenue
* Dr Kiran Walia (Minister of Health) - Greater Kailash
* Raj Kumar Chauhan (Minister of Development and PWD) - Paschim Vihar
* Mangat Ram Singhal (Minister of Labour and Social Welfare) - Sarai Pipal Thalia
