CM directs MMRDA to prepare roadmap to solve city’s traffic problems

Mumbai, March 7 Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has directed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to prepare a roadmap to solve the traffic problem of the city.

CM Deshmukh, while speaking during a meeting organized for a discussion on private-public participation for Metro Railway at Mantralaya, said he was expecting the MMRDA to implement the solutions in a time-bound manner.

Deshmukh said that MMRDA should be put special efforts to ensure that the Metro Railway project is completed.

“MMRDA should complete the Metro Railway project expeditiously as it would solve Mumbai's traffic problem which is turning out to be major headache to the city,” said Deshmukh in a statement.

MMRDA commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad made a presentation of Metro Railway to the Chief Minister.

MMRDA is planning to construct a 146.5 km long 9 corridors in three stages. Gaikwad said that state can implement the Metro Railway project faster than involving any private body. Gaikwad assured the CM that in an year’s time the pillars will be erected and the project will be initiated.
