Kolkata The chairman of Dhunseri Group, C K Dhanuka, on Monday urged Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to ensure better connectivity and infrastructure at the Bantala Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The group, which is engaged in tea plantation and petrochemicals businesses, will set up an IT park at the Bantala SEZ at a cost of Rs 130 crore. The foundation of the park was laid by Bhattacharjee on Monday. “Work on the Baruipur-Rajarhat highway has not begun yet. We urge the state government to see that the the Basanti highway can be made into a six lane way,” said Dhanuka. The chief minister in his reply assured him that he would take up the issue with the PWD department. Bhattacharjee said: “Sector V of Nonadanga and Bantala are totally occupied and we are now planning to develop other SEZs at Haldia, Durgapur and Siliguri.” IT minister Debesh Das said that although the growth of IT in 2009 will be slower than the last year, there will be no major retrenchments. “Many IT companies like TCS are growing at a good rate,” said Das.
