Sanjay’s parents, Tapan and Pratima Ghosh, and other family members today met Bhattacharjee at his office at Writers’ Buildings and told him about the trauma and financial hardship they were enduring.
On January 25, Sanjay, along with a group of armed jawans, had conducted a raid at Barikul in Bankura district. But soon they were outnumbered by the Maoists. Ghosh and his colleagues dispersed but a little later Ghosh who lost contact with others strayed into dense forests. Thereafter, he was caught by the Naxalites who later beheaded him.
“The chief minister has assured us that our younger daughter will get a job. He has also told us that the government will extend all possible help to us,” Tapan Ghosh said after the meeting.
According to the government policy, the family of the young constable will get a total package of Rs 15 lakh and they will also continue to receive the salary Sanjay was getting, till the time of his retirement. The family will also be allowed to stay in the police quarters till the time of his retirement.
Allotting a job for a family member of Sanjay was difficult for the government, as he was not married and as per government rules only the wife or children were entitled to get a job on compassionate grounds. “The chief minister will find a way on how to get a job for Sanjay’s sister,” a government official told The Indian Express.
