CM takes on blood-thirsty Opposition in Assembly

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Thursday indirectly admitted in the state Assembly that the ruling Marxists, too, had hidden arsenals and said that it was because of a “blood-thirsty Opposition” that peace is eluding the state.

“You are asking me to give instructions to the police to recover illegal arms and ammunition stockpiled by the ruling party. But are you that clean? Of course, the ruling party has a bigger responsibility than the Opposition in maintaining law and order. But the Opposition has a role to play as well, which you are not doing. There should have been a consensus in this regard but unfortunately we are not getting that cooperation from a blood-thirsty Opposition,” the CM said in response to a question raised by Congress Legislature Party leader Manas Bhuniya regarding the number of deaths in political violence during the last one year. According to the figures given by the CM in the last one year, 1,794 people have been killed in political violence.

The Congress, meanwhile, staged a walk-out alleging that the chief minister did not take any action against the SP of Burdwan district in the incident of Mongolkot, where a Congress delegation led by Bhuniya was attacked by CPM goons. As Bhattacharjee said that by transferring SPs administration cannot be run and that he had taken action against the culprits, the Congress expressed dissatisfaction and staged a walk-out. The Trinamool also followed suit when the CM accused the party of hobnobbing with Maoists.
