Keeping this in mind, a theme pavilion on “Gujarat in Africa” was inaugurated at Police Stadium in Shahibaug as a part of the festival.
The pavilion celebrates the historical connection between Gujarat and the continent.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi reminded the people about the show of enterprising and courageous nature by the ancestors of the State. “Like our ancestors, we too should bravely take Gujarat to the doors of the outer world,” Modi said while inaugurating the pavilion.
Another theme pavilion on adventure sports was also inaugurated by the chief minister.
The ongoing Kite Festival will have an international Kite Competition on Saturday morning and Vishwa Gujarati Parivar Mahotsav in the evening, International Kite Festival on Sunday and Heritage Walk on Monday.
The Kite competition, which is being organised for the first time, will see kiters from countries like Australia, US, England, France, Denmark, Philippines, Netherlands, Nigeria and Turkey.
The panel of judges for the competition will include noted kiters Bhanu Shah from Ahmedabad, Dilip Kapadia from Mumbai, Ludvig Petit from France.
Free first aid
To attend to people getting injured during the kite festival and Uttarayan, Mansarovar Hospital at Vadaj and Purohit Hospital at Naranpura have decided to offer free first aid to any person suffering any injury during the festival. This service would be provided by the hospitals from January 12 to January 17. The service would be available round-the-clock during these days.
