Kolkata After the CPM suffered a set of electoral setbacks, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is now willing to give a patient hearing to the opposition parties.

In a rare gesture, in his capacity as the CM, Bhattacharjee has agreed to meet a BJP delegation led by BJP state president Rahul Sinha over the issue of influx of Muslims in the border district of Murshidabad. The CM’s office has confirmed the appointment to the state BJP unit on June 29.

“We have got an appointment to meet the CM tomorrow at 5 pm. The delegation will discuss the influx of Muslims in Murshidabad district that has led to communal tension in the area,” said Sinha on Monday.

Sinha said this will be his first meeting with the CM after being elected BJP state unit president. Earlier, he has discussed the issue with the Director General of Police, Bhupinder Singh.

The BJP leader’s meeting with the CM assumes political significance for a party with which the Left has always maintained distance. Of late, the state BJP unit has been engaged in indirect criticism of its one-time ally in the NDA coalition — Trinamool Congress — for the policies of the UPA government.

“So long as Mamata Banerjee is with the UPA, she will have to take the responsibility of the price rise. The Trinamool should stop the drama of not being present in the Cabinet meetings and come out of the UPA and fight for people,” said BJP state president.

CPI(M) RESPONSIBLE FOR INFLUX OF ILLEGALS by J.N.Mahanty on 29 Jun 2010

During the last 25 years CPI (M) shut its eyes over the Influx of Illegals from B'desh and used them as a Vote Bank. Now when the Vote Bank is shifting sides, CPI (M) wakes up and agrees to discuss the serious subject. All political parties must note that if the illegal influx continues, the whole of West Bengal will be lost to B'desh, for ever, by the "Number Game" within next two or three decades. There has already been serious change in the demography in all W.Bengal distrcts bordering B'desh and the Muslims have become majority in these districts. No one will be surprised if they demand separation from India like the millitant Kashmiri Muslims. For this the Nation will never gorgive the Marxists.

Call spade a spade by P.BANERJEE on 29 Jun 2010

Why doesn't Mamata attend the cabinet meetings and register her protest against the policy she doesnot endorse?Skipping meetings and making protest in public is a sort of excapeism that does not behove a fire brand leader like her.She should call a spade a spade.
