Banga/Nawanshahr/Garhshankar Addressing a series of public rallies in Banga, Nawanshahr and Garhshankar today, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal again rapped the Congress-led UPA for economic policies that were harming the industry and were responsible for slow agricultural growth in the state.

Badal said the Congress continues to discriminate against Punjab and has historically remained indifferent towards it while enacting policies and distributing funds.

The CM gave Rs 2 crore each to the Banga, Rahon, Nawanshahr, and Garhshankar municipal councils for development works, and announced Rs 1.81 crore for the development of 101 village panchayats in Banga, Rs 1.57 crore for 111 panchayats in Nawanshahr, and Rs 2.37 crore for 302 panchayats in Garhshankar. He added that the Punjab government plans to formulate a comprehensive policy for the development of the kandi area and widening of the Garhshankar-Anandpur Sahib Road.

Badal said distributing grants in front of an audience was not a political gimmick, but a move designed to "instill a sense of belongingness and confidence in the public and to solicit their participation in the development process".

He asked the public to support SAD-BJP candidate Dr Daljit Singh Cheema in Anandpur Sahib constituency.
