Belarani Bhattacharya, 83, yesterday moved the Calcutta High Court, alleging that her son, an IPS officer, had subjected her to immense torture, even depriving her of medical treatment, as he wanted her to hand over to him the ownership of her house at Salt Lake.
Justice Pranab Chattopadhyay, in whose court the petition has been filed, has sent a copy of the complaint to Chief Minister Buddhadb Bhattacharjee and state DGP Bhupinder Singh asking them to take necessary action against the officer. “We have asked Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen to file a report and accordingly action will be taken,” Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakrabarti said.
The chief minister is learnt to have taken serious exception to the matter and has asked the Home Department officials to take stern action against the officer if he was found guilty.
‘Kolkata not terrorist-free’
CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Friday said Kolkata is not terrorist-free and that the police and the civil society need to remain vigilant. “Kolkata is not safe from the terrorists. There are several terrorists working in the city,” adding there was a need to modernise the state police force.
