Kolkata Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today wrote to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, welcoming him for the February 9 meeting that has been convened by the Centre at the Writers’ Buildings.

Apart from Chidambaram, Bhattacharjee, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik and Jharkhand CM Shibu Soren will also be present at the meet in which a new strategy will be discussed on how to take on the Naxalites. “We appreciate your stand in tackling the whole issue and we are ready to offer you all co-operation in this regard,” Bhattacharjee’s letter said. Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said, “Without a joint operation with states like Jharkhand, the Naxalite menace in our districts like Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore can never be weeded out. We ourselves cannot take it up with Jharkhand. So we requested the Centre to prevail upon that state to do that was needed.”
