Recent WHO epidemiological data have declared diabetes a ‘pandemic’. Nowhere is this more the case than in India. At the current incidence rate, India will not only have the most people in the world with diabetes, but will have the highest prevalence rate as well. It is estimated that as many as one in every three adults in India will develop diabetes. If the current trend continues, the cost to India for diabetes care will exceed $US 100 trillion.
Staged Diabetes Management (SDM), developed at IDC, incorporates the newest research findings into evidence-based practice. SDM is a systematic evidence-based approach to the prevention, detection and treatment of diabetes and its metabolic complications. The programme has been implemented in more than 500 clinical sites in over 30 countries, resulting in significant changes in care processes, short-term improvements in metabolic parameters and reduction in long-term complications.
As part of the novel SDM approach and SDM training, the core faculty will be asked to maintain records on a selected group of patients.
