CM’s statement misleading: Cong MLAs

Chandigarh Two young Congress MLAs on Wednesday described as "mischievous" and "misleading" the statement of Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal in which he said that as per the Budget proposals of Union Finance Minister, only the default payment of small and marginal farmers would be waived and not the entire outstanding loan amount.

Addressing mediapersons here, Bholath MLA Sukhpal Khaira and Talwandi Sabo MLA Jeet Mohinder Singh said, "Unable to digest the magnanimous relief given to four crore farmers of India, including about three lakh in Punjab, Badal is now resorting to unethical and immoral politics. This shows Badal's narrow and parochial approach," Khaira said.

He said the budget speech clearly said all agricultural loans disbursed by scheduled banks, regional rural banks and cooperative credit institutions up to March 21, 2007, and over due as on December 31, 2007, would be covered under the scheme.
