Transfer
For the last several days, officers of Punjab Police are on tenterhooks with regards to their postings. This presumably is the transfer season and the suspense over their orders is too much for the cops. In fact, they are not averse to even calling up the journalists in the evening to enquire if the transfer list is out. Many of them have already started making rounds of powerful politicians to use the ‘influence’ to get their preferred posting.
Escorting
Court orders notwithstanding, the ministers are still plying with their elaborate escorts. Now we don’t know whether not using the escort vehicles but ensuring that the vehicles stay at the homes of their officers who were using them, constitutes abiding by the court order or not, but that is what top police officers of the state are doing. But they don’t seem to be minding the ‘discomfort’ of travelling without escort, because right now, their attention is focused on brand new Toyota Innovas. While the seniors (ADGP level) are travelling in Innovas, their used Ambassadors have been passed on to the juniors.
New man, new office
The new Deputy CM is ensuring that there is nothing old in his office. Everything, right from the chair, table and even flower vases to security personnel, has been changed and replaced with the more visually appealing alternatives. But while shifting, the table proved to be very cumbersome as it simply wouldn’t get inside the room. Finally, after much effort it was put inside. Even the special officers attached to him have been alloted new rooms. Four rooms have been allocated to them.
Safe card
Maverick filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, out with his take on Sarat Chandra’s novel Devdas, rechristened Dev D, conveyed a significant message through the invites sent out for the movie’s premier in the city on Wednesday. What looked like any other film invitation card with photos of lead actors, till one flipped to see the insides, had a condom-pack tucked beneath the cover. The five-in-a-pack was meant to spread awareness about safe sex, though it did come as a shock to the pseudo-intellectuals. By the way, does the Condom Bar in Kalagram still exist?
Healthy competition
The Administration and the MC have both announced plans to build new parks in the city. While the Admnistration has come out with grand ideas of a park for the visually- challenged, the MC is also ready with plans to build a ‘butterfly park’. Both are busy trying to get their parks ready before the other. At loggerheads perpetually, the MC and the Adminsitration can finally be credited with realising the value of healthy competition, literally.
