“The MCD will start removing all political posters, irrespective of individual or political party,” said Gupta.

While agreeing that he too had his posters put up all over the city, Gupta said: “Now that the election code of conduct is in place and the Delhi Anti Defacement of Property Act has been implemented, all posters will have to be removed.”

Additional District Commissioner, Remunerative Projects (RP) Cell, Amiya Chandra said: “With the Delhi Defacement of Property Act, 2007, in place, any individual can lodge a complaint or an FIR against the politician or the party for defacing public property.”

The MCD now plans to create 1,000 sites that will allow political and religious parties to put up their posters free of cost. “The Corporation is developing 1000 new toilet blocks for the Commonwealth Games. A part of the advertisement space in these blocks will be marked exclusively for these hoardings,” added Chandra.

The Delhi Defacement of Property Act, 2007, was implemented by the government on Monday. Also, the West Bengal Anti Defacement Act, 1976, that included Delhi under its purview, bars any individual or organisation from littering the city with posters.
