The minimum temperature at Naliya in Kutch district dipped to 2.2 degree Celsius (five degrees below normal). It was the lowest temperature recorded in the region this season.
Rajkot too recorded the lowest temperature this year at 8.2 degree Celsius. Mercury has dropped by two degrees in the last 12 hours. Chilly winds coupled with 68 per cent humidity added to the woes of the people in the city. Bhuj was little warmer at 9.2 degree, whereas the minimum temperature recorded at Amreli was 9.7 degree Celsius. At Junagadh, the minimum temperature was 10.1 degree Celsius.
Schools registered a low turnout while markets and shops wore a deserted look due to the cold weather. The celebration and party plans of many to welcome the New Year were affected and people had to make last minute changes in their menu and party wear. “I had chosen a special dress for the New Year Eve party, but now I’ll have to wear some woollen cloths. My plan to wear that dress has fallen flat”, said Shruti Goyal, a college student.
Party hosts like Shalini Singh had to alter their menu in accordance to the weather. “I had taken a risk and included ice-cream in the menu. But in this temperature, we defiantly have to go for some other dessert item,” she said.
