“The documents were classified as A, B, C, C-1 and D. Those classified under D category were destroyed,” said Dalvi in a presentation to the media on Friday. The plan is to have computerised data, which will be made available by next year. “Information will be available at the click of a mouse,” he said.

With 77 circle officers in the districts to be given laptops, the collector said each of the employees will have a computer. Another interesting development is that the collectorate will be given a new look. We are looking at a “corporate look”, Dalvi said.

The British era heritage building of the collectorate as well as its other extensions will be demolished to pave way for this new look. The old buildings on the premises of the Divisional Commissionerate will also be replaced by modern structures. District guardian minister Ajit Pawar gave his nod for the proposal on Thursday. The proposal was mooted as the existing office space cannot accommodate the entire staff at the collectorate and divisional commissionerate.
