Pune Waking up to the growing complaints from citizens about disorder at the citizens’ facilitation centre (CFC), the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has begun the process of setting up four more such centres. Unlike the existing centre at PCMC headquarters in Pimpri, the four new centres will, in all likelihood, provide different utility services under one roof.

Municipal Commissioner Asheesh Sharma said he was holding talks with officials of the district collectorate, BSNL, MSEB and RTO about providing different services at one place. “For instance, citizens can get their licence renewed at the centres rather than go all the way to Chikhli,” he said. Also, BSNL and MSEB can start bill payment centres.

The PCMC, said Sharma, will provide the staffers required which means the district collectorate, BSNL, MSEB and RTO won’t have to bother about sparing additional staff. “We also plan to provide value-added features like SMS update to the citizens about the status of their applications.

Sharma said he spoke to district collector Chandrakant Dalvi and urged him to set up one counter each at the new CFCs. “The collector has agreed to do so after their agreement with the contractor expires,” he said.

Deputy collector Chintamani Joshi said the collectorate will open one counter each at the new CFCs and also provide additional staff .

PCMC computer officer Neelkanth Poman, looking after the technical aspect of the project, said the tender process has begun, but the actual setting up of the centres could be done only after the polls.

After Newsline took up the matter with him, the municipal commissioner had himself surveyed the condition of the CFC. He promised to decentralise CFCs and has lived up to the promise.
