The incident occurred at the booking counter on the eastern side at 10.30 pm when one of the two ticket booking windows got closed for the night. According to CR public relations officer Shrinivas Mudgerikar, one booking window closed at 10 pm, while the other was shut at 10.30 pm. “Being a Sunday, ticket booking counters had lot of rush. At 10 pm when one of the windows closed, the commuters joined the queue on the other window. Irritated by long queues, the commuters created a commotion and a glass panel which already had cracks was broken. It was unintentional and accidental,” said Mundgerikar.
According to Kalyan GRP personnel, the commuters got more infuriated after the other ticket booking window also closed at 10.30 pm. They refused to move and demanded the windows remain open to issue tickets to the remaining people in the queue. Mundgerikar added that that there are six suburban ticket booking windows on the western side of Kalyan station that are open round-the-clock. He said, “When the booking counters on the eastern side close down, commuters are allowed to use the foot over-bridge and get the tickets from the windows on the western side.”
Mundgerikar said that CR had installed two ATVMs and coupon validating machines (CVM) at the station to ease the queues.
No case has been registered by the GRP since the railways maintained the breaking of the glass panel was an accident.

public relations officer is totally a lie, getting ticket at kalyan west counters is very difficult, you have to wait almost for more than half an hour, they have created a mess at kalyan station, the day when the unreserved ticket counters were merged with the suburban ticket counters it is very difficult for the people to get tickets for local trains, whenever you go there, only about 2 - 3 counters work instead of all the 6 counters. kalyan is the worst station on the whole central line.
