“The decision has increased the frequency of buses at the rural areas. Commuting time has reduced and we have received positive response from passengers,” said PMPML chairman and managing director S B Patil. While earlier these buses came into the city and halted at Swargate, commuters are now expected to take the Bus Rapid Transport from Hadapsar and Katraj. “Earlier, to commute from Urali Kanchan to Swargate, it would take a bus over 45 minutes. Now commuters can get off at Hadapsar and travel on the BRT route using the same ticket. This has reduced commuting time considerably,” said joint managing director Aziz Karche. The interval of the buses on this route has now decreased to 15 minutes, said officials.
Thus, buses coming from Urali Kanchan, Alandi Mhatobachi, Manjiri, Saswad and Theur are now halting at Hadapsar while buses coming towards the city via the Satara road from Khed Shevapur and Cheladi, Kondanpur will halt at Satara.
In another move, PMPML has introduced badges for drivers and conductors at the Katraj depot. “Passengers keep complaining of rude drivers and conductors. Now, they can note down the names and revert to us,” said public relations officer D K Pardeshi. Ten volvo and 10 star buses have been introduced on the BRT route beginning January 1. “These initiatives have been taken on a pilot basis and “the initial feedback we have received shows that the commuters are appreciating it,” Pardeshi said.
