On February 13, Bhattacharjee had warned the Trinamool Congress against “fomenting” trouble in West Bengal and called upon the Left parties’ workers to give a “fitting reply if Trinamool continued to tread on this path”.
Alleging that the senior police officers failed to initiate follow-up action into the complaint that was lodged on Monday, president of district Youth Congress (YC) Avijit Dey Bhaumik today demanded police inquiry into the complaint at the earliest.
Superintendent of Police Kalyan Bandyopadhyay, however, said the on-duty Sub-Inspector at Kotwali police station Swapan Deb noted the complaint against the chief minister without consulting higher officials and he has asked DSP (Sadar) to inquire the circumstances behind the duty officer recording the complaint.
Demanding no action should be taken against the junior officer “as he acted within the law”, YC protested in front of the SP office today.
Joining the fray, district Trinamool Congress Vice-President Niranjan Dutta said his party would hold demonstrations for the rest of the month protesting against the speech of Bhattacharjee.
The Trinamool Congress also demanded that no action should be taken against the duty officer who had admitted the complaint.
Special IGP (North Bengal), D T Lepcha promised to look into the matter.
