A senior official in the State CEO’s office said on Thursday that besides the 100 complaints directly having been sent to the office since the code of conduct came into force on March 2, district election officers (DEOs) have received 24 such complaints. Out of the total 124 complaints, as many as 75 pertain to the government officers not being transferred despite having completed the term of three years in the present posting at the same place.
One of the complainants has requested the Election Commission to transfer State Health Commissioner Amarjit Singh who has been serving this post for over four years. The official in the State CEO’s office, however, ruled out the possibility of Singh’s transfer, as he is not engaged in poll-related work.
The opposition Congress has complained that rival parties are busy employing the workers of private companies in Ketch in poll-related work, which, the party has demanded should be banned.
Meanwhile, State CEO Anita Karwal on Thursday held the first round of a meeting of district collectors in her office, where she reviewed the pre-poll preparations now on in Saurashtra and North Gujarat districts. She will have another round of similar meeting with the collectors from other districts on Friday.
